Below are links to a number of sites with useful information for international travellers:
Travel Advisories
Many countries have government-operated websites which give travellers information on destination countries, including information on visa requirements, health issues, and most importantly safety and security. Usually these sites will have some sort of rating system to indicate how safe it is for travellers to go there.
Here are links to some of the major travel advisory sites:
USA: US Department of State
UK: Foreign & Commonwealth Office
Canada: Foreign Affairs & International Trade Canada
Australia: Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade

Airports
If you will have a tight flight connection, or just want to see in advance where you will have to go at the airport, the following site gives the layout of over 210 airports around the world:
Airline Seating
Most travellers have had the unfortunate experience of boarding their plane at the start of a long-awaited holiday, only to find that they are seated next to the galley or toilets, and all hope of a restful flight has disappeared out the window.
Thankfully, there is a great website which shows the seating arrangements for more than 275 aircraft spread over 40 international and domestic airlines. The seating areas are color-coded into “good” green seats, “be aware” yellow seats and red “bad” seats. This knowledge, combined with easier access to seat selection options with many airlines, means that travelling (particularly with children) can be a whole lot more stressful.
Check out the website below, which also provides a lot of additional info on plane configurations, such as laptop power-point availability, etc:
